The Best Graphics Cards for 1440p Gaming

Tested picks for 1440p at high refresh rates, from the card most people should buy to the one worth stretching for.

1440p is the resolution most PC gamers should be targeting, and it is also the resolution where graphics card marketing is least useful. A card that looks like overkill on paper can still miss 60fps in the games you actually play.

How we tested

Every card was run in the same bench: a mid-range eight-core CPU, 32GB of memory, and a 1440p 165Hz panel. We test at native resolution with upscaling off first, because upscaling quality varies by game and hides real performance differences.

Numbers quoted are averages across nine games, with the 1% low recorded separately. A card that averages well but stutters is not a card we recommend.

What actually matters at 1440p

Memory capacity. 12GB is the floor now. Texture settings at 1440p regularly exceed it in newer releases, and when they do, the frame time graph falls apart in a way that averages do not show.

Board power, indirectly. A 300W card in a case with two intake fans will throttle. Budget for airflow or buy a smaller card.

Length. More returns happen because of clearance than because of performance.

Who should buy what

If you are on a 1440p 144Hz or 165Hz panel and want to stop thinking about settings, the 5070 Ti class is the answer. If you are willing to drop a setting or two from ultra, the 5060 Ti 16GB does 90% of the job for well under two thirds of the money — and it is the pick we make most often.

The 9070 XT is the enthusiast’s value option: fastest of the three in traditional rendering, behind in ray tracing, and priced between the two.

What to skip

8GB cards at this resolution. They benchmark acceptably today and will not in two years.
